About Marcia Fontes, LICSW
Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychotherapy
Marcia is a licensed and clinically trained bilingual psychotherapist with over 20 plus years of experience in both Brazil and the United States. She works across various settings, including crisis intervention, pediatric primary care clinics, structured outpatient programs, inpatient psychiatric facilities, rehabilitation hospitals, general hospitals, and private practice. She helps clients meet their goals, having worked in numerous organizations, including Reliant Medical Group, Advocates, Edward Kennedy Health Center, Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, Paulo de Tarso hospital, Saint Terezinha Hospital, and private practice.
She uses a personal-centered approach. She works with multicultural clients from different countries and diverse cultural backgrounds. She tailors individual treatment plans with clients using their sense of self, family and medical history, and cultural and spiritual experience.
She provides psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and other major mental illnesses. She is advancing the understanding and application of EMDR on trauma and anxiety treatment.
Marcia works in conjunction with the client, their families, medical doctors, and other specialists. The treatment plan may include a school counselor and teachers if approved by the client when working with adolescents. Her goal is to make the client feel fully supported.
Marcia earned her Master's degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Her research topic demonstrated the challenges and barriers of the multicultural population.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree with a major in Clinical Psychology from the University Valle of Rio Doce (UNIVALE) in Brazil. After graduating in Brazil, she worked as a psychotherapist for seven years in private practice and hospital settings before immigrating to the United States. She is an English/Portuguese bilingual clinician and is an independent Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Massachusetts.
